UPMC’s planned new hospital would generate 500 permanent jobs

UPMC-1

Pittsburgh-based UPMC anticipates investing $100 million to $200 million to build a new hospital in Pleasant Hills, Pa., that would generate 500 permanent jobs and hundreds of temporary construction jobs, officials said, according to a TribLive report.

Here are four things to know about the proposed hospital.

  1. The 300,000-square-foot hospital would be called UPMC South.

  2. It would be located less than a mile from rival Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network’s Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, Pa., according to the report.

  3. UPMC spokesman Paul Wood said the hospital has started the due diligence process for the proposed new hospital, including title, survey, environmental and geotechnical considerations.

  4. Allegheny Health Network officials believe the proposed new hospital project is an attempt to monopolize the market, and have hired a law firm to look at potential legal challenges, according to the report.
